Only when he stroked Mother Bear must be displayed, and then falls asleep. More involved in the plot, but similar in theme, William Cole Frances Face-Maker (Collins World, 1971, op), Alice Goodnight Schertler Hattie, my darling, my dove (Lothrop, 1984) and Bedtime for Bear Sandoli Stoddard (Houghton , 1985) are better alternatives. In Where is my mother? a newly hatched duckling asks a dog, a cat, a rabbit and a chicken, if any to his mother, eventually finding the mother duck and his brothers there. The pictures are spoiled by the bond, which cuts through some of the figures. Bubbles often have text from right to left and vice versa, which are confusing for beginning readers to read. Are You My Mother? (Basic, 1960) by Philip D. Eastman is the best choice. There are too many board books for toddlers beautiful, the history books for preschool children better readers and the most readily available, these two titles.
